VACHERON CONSTANTIN

Vacheron Constantin is the world’s oldest watch manufacturer. The brand was created in 1755 when Jean-Marc Vacheron, a young watchmaker, hired his first apprentice. In 1810, his grandson, Jacques Barthélémy, took the company over. In 1819, the brand did a partnership with François Constantin and the brand became Vacheron Constantin. In 1839 the brand unveiled numerous machines like the “pantographe”, a mechanical tool able to reproduce watch components. In 1880 the “Maltese cross” became the symbol of the brand. In 1935 Vacheron Constantin created a very complicated pocketwatch for the King Farouk of Egypt. The iconic reference 4072 chronograph was then released in 1938 and produced until the early 1970s. This chronograph had 60-second and 30-minute registers, blue chronograph hands, a sunburst dial and a tachymetre/telemeter scale. In 1955 the “Cornes de Vache” reference 6087 joined Vacheron Constantin’s lineup. The same year, the brand presented the world’s thinnest watch movement (1,64mm). The famous Kallista watch, released in 1979, was created from a 1 kilo gold bar and had 119 diamonds on it.
