Ulysse Nardin was founded in 1846 in Le Locle, Switzerland. Ulysse Nardin knew that marine and pocket chronometers were desired so he started making such watches. During the 1870s more than 50 international shipping companies had marine deck chronometers from Ulysse Nardin. When Ulysse Nardin died in 1876, his son Paul-David took the company over. In 1983 Rolf W. Schnyder purchased the company and the brand took a new direction. Ulysse Nardin’s collection revolves around a four-pillar system for simple navigation: Marine, Functional, Exceptional and Classico. The Marine pays tribute to the sea whereas the Functional focuses on great complications like Perpetual Calendar, Dual Time or Sonata. The Exceptional category goes beyond the Functional one with complications like minute repeaters. The Classico pillar features rare in-house dials, especially with the art of enameling.
