Just like Apple, Samsung started producing smartwatches in the early 2010s. Samsung’s first connected watch was the Samsung Gear, introduced in 2013. The first version of this watch was rectangular and featured a 1.0 megapixel camera of the strap. The watch was Android-based at this time. One year later, the brand unveiled the Samsung Gear S with a curved Super AMOLED screen. This second iteration of the watch was running Tizen (an independent OS) and offered cellular connectivity which made it a true independent phone. In September 2015, Samsung presented the Gear S2 which was the first circular smartwatch and tended to look more like a regular watch than a connected watch. The Gear S2 had a rotating bezel user interface and an IP68 rating for water resistance. The screen of the watch was 1.2 inches with a resolution of 360 x 360 pixels. Its successor, the Samsung Gear S3, was launched in 2016. This new version was available in two versions, the Classic with a silver watch case and black leather band and the Frontier with a black watch case and a rubber band. This watch had a bigger screen than the S2 (1.3 inches instead of 1.2). The latest iteration of the watch, the Samsung Galaxy Watch, was unveiled in 2018. This new version included a better battery performance and a new software.
