Michel Parmigiani had a workshop where he restored vintage timepieces in the mid-1970s. He met the Sandoz family during the 1980s and Pierre Landolt, one of the heads of the family, recognized Michel Parmigiani’s genius so he decided to help him create a brand. Michel Parmigiani founded the brand in 1996 and unveiled its first watch in 1999, the Toric QP Retrograde, a round watch with a multi-step bezel featuring the PF 110 in-house calibre. The Kalpa Hebdomadaire, Parmigiani’s second watch, had an unusual tonneau shape movement and an 8-day power reserve. In 2011 Michel Parmigiani presented the Hegirian Calendar which relayed the lunar cycles of the Muslim calendar. In 2014 the brand launched the Tonda 1950 Tourbillon which was the world’s flattest flying tourbillon.
