GLASHUTTE ORIGINAL

Glashütte is the name of a town in Saxony in Germany. In 1845, Ferdinand Adolph Lange created a watch company in Glashütte thanks to a loan from the Saxon government. Thanks to this success, a lot of famous watchmakers came to this place during the 1850’s. During the 1960’s, Glashütte produced shock-resistant, automatic, elegant watches made for daily use. The calibre 70 series featured a chronometer test certificate (the calibre 74 was automatic and the 75 was automatic with a date). The “Spezichron” watch arrived in 1978 with a date display and the day of the week on the dial. During the 1980’s, Glashütte made digital quartz movements for men. The brand Glashütte Original was founded in 1994 in Germany by Heinz W. Pfeifer. Glashütte Original belongs to this group of watchmakers which has contributed to the rebirth of german watchmakers. Heinz W. Pfeifer bought the brand Glashütte and changed it Glashhütte Original. The brand joined the Swatch group in 2000. Today Glashütte Original’s watches create high-quality timepieces featuring in-house movements and great complications. There are 4 main collections. The first one is Art & Technik (a collection of 10 watches featuring the greatest complications like Grande Cosmopolite Tourbillon), the second one is the Quintessentials (a collection of 8 classic chronometer watches featuring chronographs, moonphases and 3 hands timepieces), the third one is the 20th Century Vintage (a collection which pays tribute to the 60’s and the 70’s) and the last one is the Ladies Collection (3 matches including complications like a moonphase with diamonds).
