The Piaget Manufacture was founded by Georges Edouard Piaget in 1874 in the Swiss Jura. Edouard Piaget had a workshop where he made movements for prestigious brands. His son took the company over in 1911. Piaget began making “Piaget” watches in 1943 and in 1955 the brand focused on ultra-thin timepieces. In 1957 the brand introduced the famous ultra-thin hand-wound P Calibre which was only 2mm thin. A few years later, in 1960, the brand unveiled the 12P Calibre, the world’s thinnest self-winding movement (2.3mm thin). In 1979 the brand created the Polo watch which quickly became an icon for the brand. During the 1990s the brand launched new calibres, the 430P and 500P which would replace the 9P and the 12P. In 1998 Piaget introduced the Altiplano collection inspired by a vintage 1957 model. The Piaget Altiplano can be considered as the most famous Piaget watch today. The Piaget Emperador, introduced in 1999, featured the most sophisticated mechanical movements. For the 50th anniversary of the 12P Calibre, Piaget launched a skeleton version of this movement and in 2013, an exceptional complication, a minute repeater.
